Zebra Cake?? Ehh?? Sounds weird naaa...

This is the cake which I always wondered how can it be made at home?

I tried this with my sis in law :)

Believe me its not at all difficult. U just have to make a batter.. then divide it into two. Add cocoa in one.. And then pour them in a cake pan alternatively.. :) and bakeeee...

Details below:

Ingredients:

Unsalted Butter/Oil                                        1 cup

Sugar (Granulated)                                         1 3/4 cups
Flour                                                               2 cups
Eggs                                                                5
Baking powder                                               1 tbsp.
Milk                                                                1 1/4 cup
Vanilla Essence                                              1 tsp. (optional)
Cocoa powder                                                 6 heaped tbsp.

Procedure:

SUMMARYU just have to make a batter.. then divide it into two. Add cocoa in one.. And then pour them in a cake pan alternatively.. :) and bakeeee...yooo.. lets move to detailed recipe -

First of all, Combine flour and baking powder in a bowl and set aside.

Mix butter and sugar in another separate larger bowl.

                                                                    Mix & Mix.

Mix the batter until fluffy and smooth. Remember not to leave chunks in it.

Then add eggs in it one by one.

Then add vanilla essence. Beat again properly.

Beat until soft, creamy and fluffy as shown below :)

Next add flour and 1 cup of milk in the above (egg) mixture in 3 alternative pours. Start and end with flour mixture. Combine all things and remember not to over mix or it will ruin ur cake.

Preheat oven to 180 C properly. If the oven is not heated properly, zebra stripes will not form.

Next divide this mixture into 2 equal portions.

Keep 1 portion of the mixture plain. Add cocoa powder & 1/4 cup of milk to the 2nd portion. And mix well :))

Grease the cake pan and start assembling ur cake batter :)

Now comes the most interesting part, how to give the cake its zebra stripes? Take one big full spoon of the plain mixture and pour it into the pan. Then take spoon full of cocoa mixture and pour it in the center on top of the plain mixture. Continue to pour the mixtures one by one, so that it forms layers, as shown below. This would give the cake its zebra stripes.

P.S. Keep in mind that the mixtures should be poured without letting the previous mixture spread. So be quick in pouring one mixture on top of the other. Don't wait for it to spread. This would prevent the mixtures from mixing with each other and hence ruining the stripes.

Bake in the oven for 25-40 minutes. Check by a knife or tooth pick to see if the cake is done.

Once done, run the edges with a knife, let it cool down, before u take it out in the serving dish :)

Yummm..

You can top your cake with cream and sprinkles or chocolate or anything else you want :) Enjoy!!
