Spicy Cumin Chicken (Zeera Chicken)

I have discussed different ways of cooking chicken from which some of the most loved ones are 

Chicken Shashlik with Sauce and Mughlai chicken. Today I am going to discuss with u another variety that is, Cumin (Zeera chicken). Bit astonished? What kinda way it is to cook. Don't worry, same way I felt when I heard first about it. But believe me it comes out to be really tasty! U must try it :) The spicy zeera chicken brings in it the unique traditional flavor. The pieces of chicken cooked in cumin seeds & yogurt goes so well :)

And here u go with the spicy, aromatic & flavorful Cumin chicken recipe, with finger licking results :)


Chicken                                            500 gm (1/2 kg) 
Oil                                                    1 1/2 wooden spoon (doi)
Butter                                               2 tbsp.
Onions                                              2 (sliced)
Green Chili                                        3 (chopped)
Red Chili powder                              1/2 tsp.           
Turmeric Powder                              1/2 tsp.
Black Pepper                                    1/3 tsp.
Garam Masala (Whole spices Powder) 1 tsp.
Red Chili Flakes                               1 tsp
Garlic Paste                                      1 tsp.
Ginger Paste                                     1 tsp.
Salt                                                   1/2 tsp.
Coriander powder                             1 tsp.
Cumin Powder (Zeera)                     1 tsp.
Cumin seeds                                    2 1/2 tbsp.
Whole pepper                                   3
Clove (Long)                                    3
Cinnamon Sticks (Daar cheeni)         2
Yogurt                                              3/4 cup
Coriander Leaves (dhanyia)              Few
Maythi (Fenugreek) Seeds                Few        
Lemon Juice                                     1 tsp (optional)


Heat oil, and add the fenugreek seeds, followed by whole spices + cumin seeds & ginger garlic paste. Let them splutter.

Add chicken & fry until chicken changes color.

Then add all the spices except whole spices powder. Then add spices, green chili & yogurt. Fry for few minutes. Cover the lid for 15-20 minutes until the chicken is well cooked & oil separates.

Keep gravy of ur choice. In the end add lemon juice (Optional). Garnish with all spices powder (garam masala) and coriander leaves. 

Delicious & spicy ZEERA chicken is ready!! Enjoyyy with naan or chapati or boil rice! :)

  1. Hi - I've been looking for a Jeera Chicken recipe for ages, and was very pleased to find your post. However, could you clarify the phrase
    "..Then add all the spices except whole spices powder. Then add spices, green chili & yogurt."Which spices go in when, and should there be a gap (of time) between the 'whole spices powder' and the 'spices' in the next sentence? I can't really work out which go in or when! Thank you!!
